OKLAHOMA CITY – USA Softball, the National Governing Body of Softball in the United States, is proud to announce the selection of Dale “Bubba” Brungardt (Vancouver, Wash.) as the 2017 USA Softball Male Slow Pitch Athlete of the Year. Brungardt, who has been involved with the USA Softball National Team Program since 2014, was a member of the 2017 Men’s Slow Pitch National Team roster which competed at Border Battle IX last summer in Oklahoma City, Okla.
“Just being on Team USA and being able to wear those letters across my chest means the world to me,” said Brungardt. “I’ve been truly blessed with great people around me and in my corner to be able to make that possible for the last four years now. Receiving an award like this and to join the company of previous winners is an incredible honor. I’ve had some of the best guidance any player could receive from some of the truly great ambassadors of our game. Playing the game the right way and for the good of the team has been instilled in me, so to be able to receive an individual award like this is very humbling. I want to thank the USA Softball family for such a prestigious honor and Wilson/Demarini for supporting me since day one.”
Brungardt was perfect at the plate throughout Border Battle IX, leading the U.S. roster by going 5-for-5, which included three singles and two doubles. Appearing in every game for the Red, White and Blue, Brungardt also knocked in three RBI with four runs scored, producing a 1.400 slugging percentage at the plate. Against Canada at the Men’s Border Battle, Brungardt went 1-for-1 with one run scored after getting on base with a double in the bottom of the seventh. His top performance at Border Battle IX came against All Star Plumbing, where he went 3-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored.
“Bubba has been an integral part of our National Team Program and this is an extremely worthy honor,” said 2017 Men’s Slow Pitch National Team Head Coach, Steve Shortland. “Besides being a tremendously skilled player, he’s a consummate ‘team first’ individual who’s always been well-respected by his USA teammates. He’s been a tremendous ambassador for our sport and I’m honored to have shared the field with him. I am super proud of him!”
In addition to his Team USA accolades, Brungardt also had a phenomenal run at the 2017 USA Softball Slow Pitch National Championships. Starting at the Men’s Super Slow Pitch National Championship, Brungardt earned Batting Champion and Tournament MVP honors after hitting .867 (13-for-15) with five home runs, 13 RBI and 12 runs scored. He followed with a .833 (10-for-12) average at the Men’s A Slow Pitch National Championship with one home run, 10 RBI and nine runs scored.

Dale Brungardt Quote Regarding His Relationship With Demarini:
“I have been under contract with Wilson/DeMarini since 2010. Chris Larsen, Jeremy Guillory, Ty Goodwin and Jerry Garnett opened the door and took a chance on a kid with a whole lot to learn in softball and life. Since joining the DeMarini family it has been as important to me as any relationship in my life. I’ve been given the opportunity to travel to many places and meet so many people I now call friends. For this I am truly grateful. None of this would have been possible without the great opportunity given to me by Wilson/DeMarini. I am blessed to be a part of such a great company and team we have here. The support I receive from the Marketing team is world class and I look forward to being here for many more years to come. Thank You Wilson/DeMarini for everything you have done for me. Thank you, USA Softball, for having me as part of your program and for this incredible honor.”
